North Platte Community College Foundation: McCook Adult Education

This Year's Project: McCook Adult Education Childcare and International Student Travel

About Our Organization

The North Platte Community College (NPCC) Foundation is a supportive arm for Mid-Plains Community College (MPCC), a comprehensive, open-access, public two-year community college that serves a vast, highly rural 18-county service area in West Central Nebraska. Through North Platte Community College, McCook Community College, and four community campuses in Imperial, Broken Bow, Ogallala, and Valentine, MPCC strives to transform lives through exceptional learning opportunities for individual student success. The NPCC Foundation and its fourteen member board play an important role in the overall development of the College. The strategic plan of the NPCC Foundation is consistent with that of the College in best serving the needs of its students. A shared vision allows the Foundation to assist the College in meeting the needs of its students and community by supporting strong and productive learning environments and development throughout MPCC's 18-county service area.

Current Project: McCook Adult Education Childcare and International Student Travel

The McCook Community College Adult Education program serves approximately 170 students and 30 members of the International Student Organization. Many students enrolled in the McCook Adult Education face educational barriers that prevent them from earning their GED or securing employment in the area. While Adult Education classes are typically offered during the day and night, many students work during the day and are only able to attend the night classes. Finding child care during the evening is often a challenge for students and has proven to prevent some from continuing their education. Likewise, International Students seeking employment on the McCook Community College Campus often do not have sufficient funding to travel to the social security office in North Platte to fill out and submit the necessary paperwork for employment.

Big Give proceeds will assist the McCook Adult Education program in providing child care for students attending Adult Education classes during the evening hours and in aiding with travel expenses for McCook International Students to acquire employment.
